Tournaments and Events

  • Kid Chess runs chess tournaments at local elementary schools and at Chess Zone, our brick-and-mortar club. 

    We welcome feedback and requests from our customers on what kind of tournaments and events you would like to see at our facilities. Please email justin@kidchess.com with your ideas.

  • Kid Chess tournaments are rapid repaired, which means no waiting around between games. If you’re coming to play, that’s what you’ll do!

    Unrated Chess Tournaments

    AM Section: 9:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. (Check-in from 8:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.) PM Section: 1:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Check-in at 1:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.)
    Kid Chess Unrated Tournaments are Rapid Repair format, meaning students will playing their games with as little downtime between individual games as possible. Trophies awarded to all students with a plus score. All other participants receive a medal.

    Bughouse Tournaments

    • All participants must have mastered how all the chess piece move to play.

    • Participants need a partner for bughouse. It is recommended that they register with a predetermined partner. However, if a student does not have a partner before the tournament, we will assist them in finding one close to their grade level prior to the start of the tournament.

    Regular Chess Tournaments

    • All participants must have mastered how all the pieces move to play.

    • Participants must fully understand how to checkmate and castle to play.
